The Jemison Lady Panthers volleyball team won a straight-sets matchup over the Thorsby Lady Rebels 25-13, 25-13, 25-10 on Sept. 17.
Jemison would jump out to an early lead in the first set thanks to the serving of Logan Woodley and a kill from Kyla Wilson.
It would be the three aces and an 8-0 Panther run led by Elizabeth Autery that would push Jemison way out in front 16-4. Autery would build on the Jemison lead thanks to two more aces and a 4-0 run that led Jemison to a first set win at 25-13.
Woodley again got the Panthers rolling in the right direction to start the second set by leading a 3-0 Jemison run, but it would be Caroline Foote that would pick up a pair of aces as part of a 5-0 Jemison run to push the Panthers out in front 8-1.
With the Rebels unable to cut into the lead and Jemison slowly pulling away, the Panthers would go on to a 25-13 win in set number two.
Set three would show to be a mirror image of the first two sets, as Woodley and Foote again combined to give Jemison a commanding 8-1 lead early in the set.
The early Jemison advantage would prove to be more than enough. The Rebels were unable to cut into the deficit, and the Panthers cruised to a 25-10 third set win and a 3-0 match victory.
“We play a little better against a faster-paced team and seem to get caught on our heels standing straight up and (are) a little slower moving to the ball against a slower paced team,” said Jemison head coach Stephanie Bolling. “We had to overcome that a few times tonight, but I am pleased with the play. Our serving was great tonight where we had been struggling with that, so I was very pleased with the way we served tonight. Overall, I was pleased with the way we played and with the outcome of the game.”
Foote led the Panthers with eight kills and seven aces while Woodley would add 11 assists and six aces for Jemison.
Wyatt led Thorsby with one dig, one ace, one kill and one block while Burnett added one dig and two assists for the Rebels.
