Thorsby council approves personnel

Thorsby’s Town Council approved several personnel matters at its regular meeting Monday.

The meeting will be the only one in December, as it was announced that the meeting originally scheduled for Dec. 21 will not be held.

Thorsby Police Chief Rodney Barnett told the council that he was having trouble scheduling the department’s part-time officers, in the absence of an officer who is missing time because of surgery, because of the holidays.

So, Barnett was given approval to bring on Freeman Ellison in a part-time role and Jonah Peters as a reserve officer.

Barnett also presented the council with an activity report and informed council members that recent repairs to a police vehicle were covered under the vehicle’s warranty.

Fire Chief Lee Gunn also sought and received approval on a personnel matter, as he was given permission to bring on Nathan Bland for a paid on-call position.

In other business, the council:

•Passed a resolution to allow the engineering company TTL to perform testing as part of a state project to replace a bridge over Yellowleaf Creek and resurface a portion of County Road 50 (Jones Street) from Highway 31 to the bridge.

•Passed a resolution accepting Kristin Lane into the town.

•Approved minutes from the Nov. 16 meeting.

•Approved paying of necessary bills with the appropriate transfer of funds.
