Rebels take four-set win over county rival CCHS

Thorsby’s varsity volleyball team took to the road on Tuesday to pick up its sixth win of the season, 3-1 (25-14, 25-17, 17-25, 25-7) at the expense of the Chilton County High School.
The visiting Rebels (6-8 overall, 1-0 area) jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first set, but the Tigers (2-10, 1-2) rallied back on a 4-0 run behind the serving of Erica Powell to take a 6-4 lead.
The Tigers’ lead wouldn’t last long as the Rebels went on a run of their own behind the serving of Sabrina Ellison to take a 9-7 lead.
Thorsby never relinquished its lead again in the first set, going on to a 25-14 win.
The two teams battled back and forth through the early stages of the second set, with neither team leading by more than two points.
With a slim two-point lead, Krista Cleckley helped the Rebels to a more commanding five-point lead thanks to three service aces as server as Thorsby went on to a 25-17 second set win.
Facing a must-win third set, CCHS jumped out to an early 8-3 lead while Makenzy Wright handled the serving.
Leading 17-15 late in the set, Erica Powell added an ace, and Kaley Lucas chipped in two kills as the Tigers went on a 5-0 run on their way to a 25-17 set win.
THS put the fourth and final set out of reach early thanks to an 8-0 run behind four aces by Ellison to make the score 10-2 in favor of the Rebels.
Thorsby went on another 8-0 run, this time behind four aces by Cleckley, as the Rebels closed out the fourth set, and the match, with a 25-7 win.
Cleckley led the Rebels with eight aces while Ellison added six kills.
Lucas led the Tigers with eight kills while Johnna Robertson had 11 serve receives.
