Mid-morning wreck in Jemison leaves individual in critical condition
One individual was transported to a local hospital in critical condition after a mid-morning wreck Monday on County Road 42 in Jemison.
Doris Brasher, wife of Jemison City Councilman George Brasher, was traveling east on County Road 42 when a 2007 GMC Yukon ran a stop sign and crashed into Brasher’s 2003 Nissan Altima.
Brasher was the only passenger in her vehicle at the time of the crash.
Jemison Police Chief Shane Fulmer said the Yukon had four occupants in the vehicle including two children.
“Thankfully, everyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt,” Fulmer said. “Speed was not a factor and the driver admitted she simply ran the stop sign.”
Fulmer said the driver of the Yukon explained she was from Bibb County in the Randolph community and was unfamiliar with the road.
“The female driving the Yukon was just traveling down a road she didn’t know and ran the stop sign,” Fulmer said.
The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into the parking lot of Smokey Hollow restaurant.
This is the second wreck to occur this year on County Road 42 at the intersection near Smokey Hollow restaurant after a fatality of a Montevallo woman happened on April 26.
Fulmer said after the wreck on Monday and the fatality in April, he and others with the city are hoping to implement a plan to improve the intersection on County Road 42 and County Road 29.
“Whether it is a caution light, rumble strips or double stop signs, we need to get something in place,” Fulmer said.
The driver of the Yukon was also transported to a local hospital on Monday after the airbags inside the Yukon were deployed at the time of the crash resulting in the driver having a curtain airbag burn.
Fulmer said a portion of County Road 42 near the wreck caused traffic delays briefly Monday morning while Jemison Fire Department and Jemison Police Department worked the scene of the wreck.
