Community Calendar for March 3
March 9: The Chilton County Democratic Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Clara’s Country Café in Clanton. Those who attend will enjoy a Dutch dinner, information and fellowship.
March 16: Chilton Medical Center will host Chamber After Hours in Honor of Colon Cancer Awareness Month from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Dr. Hari Ramasastry and his staff will be on hand to answer any questions. Refreshments will be served.
March 20: Petals from the Past will host a course on gardening with containers. Lacey Neely will pass along tips for plant combinations for use in spring planting. The class is free of charge. For more information, call 646-0069.
March 27: Petals from the Past will host a free course on managing citrus in the home garden and patio. Dr. Arlie Powell will discuss variety selection and care of citrus such as lemons, kumquats, limes and satsumas. Lunch is available for $10 (please call in advance). The class is free. U.S. Census Bureau testing: The U.S. Census Bureau is currently accepting applications for Census jobs. These are temporary, part-time jobs that offer good pay, flexible hours and are close to home. A practice test is available online at 2010 censusjobs.gov., just click on “documents” and “Census practice test.” To apply, please call 1-866-861-2010 to schedule a test.
Tuesdays and Thursdays: A medication assistance representative will be available from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Thorsby Library inside Thorsby City Hall. Anyone 55 or older or Social Security disabled of any age with no prescription coverage or the in Medicare Part D coverage gap may qualify for help paying for prescription medications. Call Thorsby Library at 646-3575 to schedule an appointment.
